Amy W. Lasek PhD

  • Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Anatomy and Cell Biology
Dr. Lasek is interested in the molecular and cell biological factors that contribute to alcohol use disorders and drug addiction. She graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a BA in Biology and Biochemistry and received her PhD in Molecular Biology from Cornell University. Prior to joining the Department of Psychiatry at UIC, Dr. Lasek was an Associate Investigator at the Ernest Gallo Clinic and Research Center at the University of California, San Francisco, where she cultivated her interests in molecular neuroscience and addiction research.

Hu Chen PhD

  • Research Assistant Professor

Hu received his PhD in Medical Sciences in 2004 from the Medical College of Fudan University in China. He joined the lab in 2012 and is examining the role of midkine and perineuronal nets in alcohol use disorder.

Cassandre Coles

Cassandre received her BS in Biological Sciences at Oakwood University in 2012. She joined the lab in 2017. Her thesis project is determining the role of specific genes expressed in the ventral tegmental area in alcohol consumption.

Luana Martins de Carvalho PhD, MS

  • Postdoctoral Research Associate
Luana is graduated in biology from the Federal University of Goias, Brazil, and earned her master’s and PhD degree in Genetics from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Luana is the current Postdoctoral Research Associate at Dr. Amy Lasek lab and interested in the genetics and epigenetics mechanism that underlie alcohol addiction.

Kana Hamada

  • Graduate Research Assistant, Graduate Program in Neuroscience

Kana received her BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Johns Hopkins University in 2012 and MHS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2013. She joined the lab in 2017 and is studying the neuroimmune signaling pathways involved in alcohol use.

Donghong He MS

  • Senior Research Specialist and Lab Manager

Donghong (Donna) received her MS in Medical Science in 1995 from Tongji Medical University in China. She joined the lab in 2012 and currently produces viral vectors for the NIAAA-funded INIA consortium. Donna is also interested in elucidating cellular signaling mechanisms regulated by the receptor tyrosine kinase ALK.

Mason Sutter BS

From Woodstock, IL. Graduated with a BS in Biology and a minor in Spanish from Valparaiso University in the Spring of 2019. Enrolled in the UIC Graduate Education in bioMedical Sciences (GEMS) program in the fall of 2019.
