UIC Psychiatry - Community Outreach Event

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS

The Center for Alcohol Research in Epigenetics (CARE), an NIH funded Center (Dept. of Psychiatry - COM, Subhash Pandey, PI), sponsored a lunch for a dozen science students from UIC Prep on Friday, February 16^th from 1 to 3 PM.  The objective of this community outreach was to link major behavioral problems facing our society (addiction) to laboratory research in neuroscience in a manner that would be easily understood and appreciated by the next generation of educators and leaders.  The event included short lectures coupled with ‘hands on’ components in the laboratory.  Such partnerships further serve to highlight the special role that public universities play in their communities, and the potential for long-term pay offs to science and public health.
