I worked on resting state functional connectivity of the ventral striatum in individuals with remitted major depressive disorder with Scott Langenecker, I completed coursework in psychotherapy techniques, the cognitive psychology of reasoning and problem-solving,and the history of psychology, as well as psychopharmacology (with residents and BNTP grad students). I submitted an NRSA F31 proposal on reward responsiveness and mechanisms of change in behavioral activation therapy. The proposal, entitled “Investigating Dynamic Changes in Reward Functioning with Behavioral Activation Intervention for Major Depressive Disorder,” received a score and some favorable comments. My dissertation project, entitled “A Longitudinal Study of Reward Functioning and Symptom Fluctuation in Mood Disorders,” added a third assessment timepoint to Dr. Langenecker’s existing RDoC study. The aims of the project were to 1) examine differences in reward functioning between individuals with a history of mood disorder and healthy individuals at the self-report, behavioral, and brain level; 2) evaluate whether trait reward-responsiveness moderates symptom change over time; and 3) explore the relationship between self-reported depressive symptoms and behavioral reward task performance. I successfully defended her dissertation in March 2019 and her doctoral degree will be conferred in August 2019.
