Dr. Shane Phillips is a Professor and Associate Head in the Department of Physical Therapy, Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs in the College of Applied Health Sciences and Professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago. As a physical therapist and Ph.D. cardiovascular physiologist researcher, he has experience in designing and implementing exercise and dietary interventions for overweight populations, particularly with underserved ethnic minority groups. Dr. Phillips is also an NIH R01-funded investigator and has expertise in studying arterial function and cardiovascular physiology and outcomes in obesity. He has conducted several previous clinical trials to examine the impact of exercise on cardiovascular outcomes and peripheral vascular function including trials involving racial differences in exercise training on blood pressure and vascular function. Dr. Philips is interested in blood pressure changes post-bariatric surgery and exercise interventions pre and post bariatric surgery.
