Sarah Berth (Hatch) MD PhD
- Research Track resident in Neurology Johns Hopkins
- T32 in the Neuroscience of Mental Health Graduate
- Alumni
Sarah Berth (Hatch) is attending Neuromuscular Fellowship at Johns Hopkins. Sarah's doctoral research examined the mechanisms of neurotoxicity by the HIV glycoprotein gp120, which has been linked to development of HIVassociated dementia and distal sensory polyneuropathy. She published two first author papers from my research, both in ASN Neuro, and I received the Dean’s Award for my dissertation. Sarah completed her MD and PhD at University of Illinois-Chicago, after which she went to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for her intern year in Internal Medicine and then Johns Hopkins School of Medicine for Adult Neurology residency.
About Sarah's experience on the training grant, she writes:
My T32 award was an invaluable source of support for my doctoral research. It provided me with training on the study of mechanisms of axon transport regulation, which positioned me to receive a Center for Clinical and Translational Science PECTS Fellowship. These training opportunities allowed me to leverage my expertise to continue research with a R25 fellowship studying the intersection between impaired fast axon transport and autophagy in ALS. Thus, the T32 was instrumental in providing a foundation for my career development as a physician scientist.
