Maria T. Caserta, MD, PhD, is Professor of psychiatry and Vice Chair for Clinical Services as well as Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Director for the UI Health Plus Program .Dr. Caserta joined Department of Psychiatry in July 2009 and has held in variety of roles including co- director of the Memory and Aging Clinic and interim director of the Women’s Mental Health program . She is past recipient of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Career Development Award in Geriatric Mental Health. She is board certified in Psychiatry as well as Geriatric Psychiatry Dr. Caserta’s research interests have included imaging techniques in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease and quantitative imaging( NMRS) with subjects exhibiting mild cognitive impairment, ( MCI )which is considered a possible precursor of Alzheimer’s. She has also published work related to bipolar disorder . This allows her to bring a unique perspective on the intertwining of these two disorders.
