Receiving the training grant allowed me to fully develop a research plan and focus on my interest in cognitive deficits in psychotic disorder with specific focus on oculomotor abnormalities in first-episode psychosis. I was able to build lasting professional relationships with collaborators from a variety of other disciplines through this work, some with which I continue to work on research projects. I believe the true value of the grant for me was to be able to focus on an independent project and be trained on all components of scientific research. The T32 coursework also gave me the freedom to gain a broader background in neuroscience. While I do not have a faculty position, I interact routinely with medical students and residents (psychiatry and psychology) and my T32 training has enabled me to be a more effective teacher.
