Lisbeth is currently a third-year undergraduate student majoring in Biology with a minor in Spanish for the Professions. She is a first-generation college student whose parents were born in Ecuador and immigrated to Chicago where Lisbeth and her two siblings were raised. As a recipient of the L@s GANAS Research Fellowship award, she was first exposed to research and came across the WMHRP where she has been at for the past year and a half. In the future, she hopes to use her fluency in Spanish and English to interact with, treat, and study patients in low-income underrepresented communities around Chicago as an MD or MD/PhD in the pediatric or pediatric immunology field.

In her free time, Lisbeth pursues her interests by volunteering and shadowing with a pediatrician at a local healthcare clinic in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago. As the Events Coordinator for the Latino Pre-Medical Student Association (LPMSA) she enjoys putting together events and recruiting guest speakers that include medical students, MDs, MD/PhDs, researchers, advisors, etc. Her plans for Summer 2022 are to take part in the 7-week long ASURE research program at Dartmouth under the supervision of MD/PhD Dr. Wilder Doucette where she will be doing research on neurocognitive impairment. At the end of the ASURE program, she will be presenting her summer research at the Leadership Alliance national symposium.

  • Academically her interests include Alzheimer’s Disease and other neurocognitive disorders, microbiology, and immunology. Outside of the academic setting, she enjoys going downtown with her friends and exploring new food places.
