James Chambliss was born in Phoenix, AZ but moved to Iowa when he was 15. He went to the University of Iowa for undergrad. He then worked as a nursing assistant, where he worked on the inpatient child psychiatry unit, at the University of Iowa before going to medical school and completing the dual MD, MPH track at the University of Iowa. The exposure to working with children’s mental health led him to pursuit of child psychiatry. • Why did I choose the UIC Child Psychiatry Fellowship?

I am interested in working with children who have experienced trauma and better understanding the role of lower socioeconomics with mental health and felt that UIC would be wonderful experience for this. I am also interested in the exposure of teaching and research along with clinical and working to better understand how I might balance these going forward.
