About
Dr. Harish Krishnan is a neuroscientist and epigenetics researcher with a strong focus on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying alcohol use disorder (AUD). After earning an MBBS degree from Government Stanley Medical College in India in 1998, Dr. Krishnan obtained a PhD in Neuroscience from The University of Texas at Austin in 2007. This was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Austin, followed by specialized training in the epigenetics of AUD and comorbid psychiatric disorders at The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). Currently, as part of the Center for Alcohol Research in Epigenetics (CARE) at UIC, Dr. Krishnan specializes in next-generation sequencing techniques and uses CRISPR-based functional approaches to investigate novel epigenomic and transcriptomic pathways involved in AUD.
Research Projects
| Title | Description | Investigator(s) | Category | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Epigenetic Core | The Epigenetics Core gives scientific support to investigate the impact of chronic ethanol exposure on gene expression and epigenetic regulation in specific brain regions of animal model of AUD as well as in human postmortem brain of AUD subjects. |

| Research Project 3 | This project examines how alcohol withdrawal alters epigenetic and transcriptomic regulation in specific cell types within the hippocampus, a brain region critical for emotion and memory. |
