Dr. Poorman is an addiction medicine specialist in the department of medicine and psychiatry. She is the medical director of the UIC addiction consult service as well as the Jesse Brown VA addiction consult service. Under her leadership, she directs multi-disciplinary teams to offer evidence-based, compassionate care to patients who use substances. Under her leadership, medications for substance use disorder, including methadone and buprenorphine for opioid use disorder, and naltrexone for alcohol use disorder, have increased throughout the VA hospital. Prior to her role on these consult services, she practiced as a primary care physician beginning in 2016, and completed an addiction medicine fellowship in 2021. She is also assistant program director for the addiction medicine and addiction psychiatry fellowships.
