Dr. Mathew’s research program addresses the role of mood, personality, and cognitions in nicotine dependence and smoking cessation. She is interested in developing targeted behavioral interventions for psychological risk factors to foster smoking cessation among underserved groups. Populations of interest include smokers with psychiatric and medical comorbidities, who face disproportionate tobacco-related disease burden.
