UIC College of Medicine Tri-Campus KTGF Outing at Starved Rock
On Saturday, April 26th, seven medical students from the Chicago, Peoria, and Rockford campuses of the University of Illinois College of Medicine gathered for a scenic hike at Starved Rock State Park, joined by three mini future physicians-in-training, one super friendly puppy, and two dedicated faculty mentors, Dr. Julie Carbray and Dr. Kelley Volpe. This Tri-Campus outing was organized by the Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation (KTGF) Jay G. Hirsch Child Psychiatry Interest Group and served as a unique opportunity to build community across campuses.
Participants enjoyed a moderate hike featuring canyons, overlooks, and waterfalls, followed by a relaxing lunch in the picnic area. Beyond the natural beauty, the outing fostered meaningful connections among students passionate about child and adolescent psychiatry, encouraged leadership and wellness, and reinforced the College’s commitment to inclusive, collaborative learning environments. Special thanks to Gloria Choi and the other medical student leaders for their thoughtful planning and organization of this memorable event!
Events like this support the growth of future physician leaders who are dedicated to improving the mental health of underserved youth across Illinois.
