Relapsing-Remitting Neuropsychiatric Symptoms Triggered by Recurrent Streptococcal Pharyngitis: A Case of PANDAS

Maanasa Bandla, DO, is a board-certified psychiatrist currently completing fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Illinois Chicago, where she serves as Chief Fellow. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Washington University in St. Louis, where she majored in Psychology with minors in Writing and Political Science, and completed her medical degree at Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Bandla completed her psychiatry residency at Boston Medical Center, where she served as Chief Psychiatry Resident and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Before beginning fellowship training, she spent a year providing telehealth services while working as an Emergency and Consult-Liaison psychiatrist at hospitals across the country.

Throughout her medical training, Dr. Bandla has pursued additional clinical and scholarly training in global and refugee mental health, women's mental health, neurodevelopmental disorders, care for gender-diverse populations, and substance use disorders. Her clinical and academic interests include trauma-informed care for diverse, minoritized, and underserved populations; integrated and community-based models of care; and advancing social justice and health equity through clinical care, education, advocacy, and systems-level change.
