Event Details
Dr. Neil R. Smalheiser, MD, PhD, has directed several multi-institutional consortia dedicated to text mining and bioinformatics research. His recent and current NIH funded projects employ informatics techniques to create and disseminate tools for indexing biomedical publications and accelerating the process of writing systematic reviews. Previous projects funded by NLM, NIMH and NIA developed “Arrowsmith”, a suite of free, public, informatics tools that are designed to accelerate scientific discovery and collaboration; as well, “Author-ity” disambiguated all authors and articles in PubMed. Dr. Smalheiser is an elected Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics. In addition, he has over 30 years of experience pursuing basic and translational research in neuroscience, most recently studying the genomics of small RNAs and their roles in synaptic plasticity and neuropsychiatric diseases.
