Introduction
T32 in the Neuroscience of Mental Health (PI: Rasenick; T32MH067631)
Continuously funded since 2004, this NIMH-funded training grant supports clinical psychologists or psychiatrists as they engage in postdoctoral research training in the department, as well as providing predoctoral fellowship support to graduate students in basic and translational neuroscience. Postdoctoral applicants must be clinical psychologists or psychiatrists (clinical discipline) who will be engaging in research projects directly applicable to the mission of the NIMH. This program funds clinicians (psychiatrists or psychologists) interested in neuroscience research training-- basic scientists are not eligible.
Postdoctoral Fellows on this T32 typically write NIH K awards, with the goal of becoming a Principal Investigator funded by the National Institutes of Health. Those with clinical (rather than research/clinical) career goals are not eligible. The postdoctoral appointment offers one year of stipend support with an additional renewable year of support (additional year is competitive and appointee must apply again). Current stipend levels are available on the NIH website at https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-19-036.html (this may change at time of appointment and stipend amount will need NIH approval).
Predoctoral trainees will be graduate students (PhD or MD/PhD) at UIC doing research applicable to the mission of the NIMH.
In addition to the NIH standard NIH postdoctoral stipend, funds are available for travel and training-related expenses.
