Department Profile
Reflecting the interdisciplinary approach required to address addiction, the Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program is an inter-departmental effort, with training faculty distributed across many departments, including Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesiology, and Internal Medicine, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Administrative oversight of the program occurs in the Department of Psychiatry.
Fellowship clinical experiences primarily occur at UI Health - the academic hospital and clinics affiliated with the UIC College of Medicine (COM), Jesse Brown VA Medical Center - located across the street from and closely affiliated with UIC COM, and Mile Square Health Center - a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) affiliated with UIC Department of Family Medicine. Additional experiences are available in community-based treatment settings throughout Chicago. Fellows work and train alongside residents and fellows from UIC's full complement of programs, including the Addiction Psychiatry fellows. Fellows have many opportunities to provide supervised clinical training and formal didactics to medical students and other residents and fellows.
