Shannon joined the lab in the Summer of 2015. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health and received her Master’s in Public Health (Community Health Sciences) in 2013. Her Capstone research project focused on post-traumatic growth in adolescents and young adults with cancer. She currently leads the implementation of a perinatal mental health project involving training OB providers to screen for perinatal depression during routine prenatal visits. Shannon previously worked in Medical Education in the Department of OB/GYN at UIC.

Jacob works with Dr. Leah Rubin on her NIH-funded clinical studies on the impact of stress, psychiatric co-morbidities and stress hormones on cognition and brain function in men and women with HIV. He completed his B.S. in Biology, along with a minor in Psychology, at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and plans to pursue medical school. Jacob has a particular interest in rural medicine and the neuroscience of addiction.

Jocabed will graduate from UIC with a B.S. in Psychology. She plans to continue her education in medical school as an OB/GYN or seek a Master's degree in Psychology. Jocabed's passion is for understanding and addressing the health disparities and barriers to care that Latinas and other underserved women in the community face. After working for two years as an RA, Jocabed now assists in the implementation of research projects focusing on the predictors of perinatal mental health in women receiving OB care at UIC. She hopes one day to be a part of the solution in improving access to care.

Lacey joined the lab in 2010 as an undergraduate Research Assistant. During that time she was awarded an Endocrine Society fellowship to support her Honor’s College Capstone project on the effects of oral contraceptive use on heart rate variability. In 2012, she received her B.S. in Biological Sciences from UIC and became a full-time research coordinator. In 2014, Lacey entered the Master’s Nutrition Program (MS/CP) in the College of Applied Health Sciences at UIC. Lacey currently leads the implementation of a research project focusing on the predictors of perinatal mental health in women receiving OB care at UIC. Her Master's research focuses on mental health and nutrition in pregnancy.
