Patricia A. Graczyk, PhD

Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology

Dr. Graczyk earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and School Psychology from Northern Illinois University in 1998 and completed a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) postdoctoral prevention research fellowship in urban children’s mental health in 2001. Her current work allows her to combine her research interests in the transportability of evidence-based practices to schools with her field work in schools related to promoting school attendance, meeting the needs of students with anxiety, and the systemic implementation of a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) service delivery model to address the academic and social-emotional needs of all students.

Dr. Graczyk has presented at local, national, and international conferences on such topics as pediatric anxiety disorders, school-based mental health services, a multi-tiered system of support to promote school attendance and address chronic absenteeism, social and emotional learning (SEL), child and adolescent peer relationships, and the role of key opinion leader teachers in promoting the utilization of school-based interventions for children with ADHD. She has written journal articles and book chapters on an array of topics. Dr. Graczyk’s most recent research is focused on determining ways to help community-based mental health and educational practitioners learn and use evidence-based mental health interventions with the children and families they serve, especially youth with anxiety disorders.

Dr. Graczyk is a licensed clinical psychologist and licensed school psychologist. She currently serves on the editorial boards of Psychological Bulletin, School Psychology Quarterly, and Behavior Modification. She also works as a Lead Coach with the Illinois RTI Network, a professional development initiative of the Illinois State Board of Education. In this role Dr. Graczyk works closely with educators in eight school districts in South Cook County to support their efforts in implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Support. She also serves as a consultant to parents and educators and provides inservice professional development activities to school personnel on a variety of topics including school refusal, promoting school attendance, data-based decision-making, program evaluation, student growth models, promoting students’ social and emotional learning, addressing the needs of students with anxiety disorders, bullying prevention, functional behavioral assessment, and developing effective behavior support plans for students with disabilities.
