    J Cook, Colleagues Win $6.5 Million Center
    Judith Cook , Ph.D., and her colleagues at the Center for Mental Health Services Research and Policy have begun work on a 5-year research and training center on evidence-based practice treatment and rehabilitation for seriously mentally ill adults. The center is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and the U.S. Department of Education. Over the next five years, the Center will conduct a series of randomized controlled trials of innovative recovery approaches, along with training and education projects with leading scholars and advocates nationwide. Lisa Razzano, Ph.H., and Sue Picket-Schenk, Ph.D., will head up the Center's research and training activities while Jessica Jonikas , M.A., and Drew Batteiger, B.A., will manage the Center's operations and information technology.     Connolly, Simpson & Petty Publish Book on Pediatric Anxiety Disorders
    Sucheta Connolly, M.D., Director of the Pediatric Stress and Anxiety Disorders Clinic; David Simpson , LCSW, Clinic and Research Coordinator and therapist in the clinic; and Cindy Petty , MS, APRN, BC and OCD specialist, currently at Rice Residential Treatment Center, Evanston, IL, have published a book entitled Anxiety Disorders. The book, published by Chelsea House,  is part of a Psychological Disorders series aimed at providing middle-school children with information on various disorders. The book provides information on development of anxiety disorders, overall evaluation and treatment of anxiety disorders, and specific chapters describing anxiety disorders. Chapters include statistics, causes, a description of symptoms, and interventions for each anxiety disorder. Case examples illustrate what each disorder looks like in a child or adolescent and art work as well as personal stories from actual patients is included in several chapters.

    Seed Grant STAR Program Invites Faculty Posters, Research Examples
    The 2010 Seed Grant “STAR” (Strategic Translational Research) program presents “Charting the Landscape of Translational Research at UIC,” a conference for researchers and faculty interested in defining what “translational research” means for UIC. Faculty are invited to present a poster summary or example of their research at the Sept. 22 conference. Posters can be “off-the-shelf” and not specially created for this conference. Food and beverage will be provided. The conference is restricted to UIC faculty only. An RSVP is required. The conference will be held September 22 from noon to 4 p.m. at the College of Medicine West , 1819 West Polk, Room 119 A. Please RSVP to Melissa Kong at mkong4@uic.edu by August 28. Please also indicate if you will be submitting a poster and the size of the poster.

All events sponsored by university departments, units, or university receognized organizations may be posted by anyone with a university netid. Since this event caldendar is built with the same technology as the UICalendar system, anyone who posts to it is also encouraged to contact www@uic.edu to integrate department calendars with the campus calendar to allow for one-step posting to both calendars.
