    S Pandey Chairs Symposium, Presents at Research Society on Alcoholism Meeting Subhash Pandey , Ph.D., chaired a symposium titled “Piecing together the role of the neuropeptide Y system in alcoholism” at 29th annual meeting of the Research Society on Alcoholism, June 23-29, in Baltimore . Dr. Pandey also delivered a talk on the “Role of central amygdaloid Neuropeptide Y signaling in alcohol preference and dependence.”

    Department Welcome Picnic Next Wednesday, 4:30 – 7 pm , in PI Park
    Everyone in the Department is invited to attend the Department of Psychiatry Welcome Picnic, next Wednesday, July 12, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The picnic will be at the PI Park, adjacent to and behind the south side of the Psychiatric Institute at 1601 W. Taylor Street . Free food and fun will be available at this annual event for UIC Department of Psychiatry colleagues, new trainees, faculty, staff, fellows, students, departmental employees, and families. Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the picnic should contact George Manning at gmanning@uic.edu , or by phone at 5-1680.

    Tamborino to Chair Chicago District, National Association of Social Workers
    Nicole Tamburrino , LCSW, was recently elected to a two-year term to serve on the Board of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) – Illinois Chapter as the Chicago District Chair. In this role, Ms. Tamborino will represent and speak on behalf of social workers in the Chicago area.  She will also be involved in policy and decision making.

    Cook, Razzano, Burke-Miller and Colleagues Featured in SAMHSA News
    The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) News recently featured an article detailing a series of peer-reviewed publications regarding employment among individuals with mental illness authored by Judith Cook , Ph.D., Lisa Razzano, Ph.D., and Jane Burke-Miller , M.S., and colleagues at the Department's Center on Mental Health Services Research and Policy. The papers, which appear in Archives of General Psychiatry, American Journal of Psychiatry, Psychiatric Services, Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, and Community Mental Health Journal , examine the effects of supported employment, integrated services, clinical factors, and demographic characteristics on employment outcomes. The results are from the Employment Intervention Demonstration Program, a 5-year multi-site, longitudinal study of employment interventions for people with mental illness. “Grading the Evidence for Consumer-Driven Services” presents the evidence base for consumer-operated, delivered, and centered services.     Family Medicine, University Village Pharmacy Open New Doors on Maxwell Street
    The Family Medicine Center and the University Village Pharmacy today opened a new location at 722 West Maxwell Street . The new 12,000-square-foot facility will offer primary care medical services as well as a dedicated pharmacy and on-site laboratory. Services include: Sick and Wellness Visits for Children, Family Planning & Pregnancy Care, Chronic Disease Management, Nutrition & Diabetic Counseling, STI, HIV, AIDS Care & Counseling, Acute Injury & Illness Care, and medication counseling

    The Family Medicine Center will also continue to offer services in the Out Patient Care Center , 4E. Parking is available in a garage at the corner of Maxwell and Union .
