    Gibbons Report on Antidepressants, Lower Child Suicide Rates Draws News Media Numerous news outlets have reported on research published in the American Journal of Psychiatry by Robert Gibbons , Ph.D., linking antidepressants to lower child suicide rates. Dr. Gibbons was interviewed by CBS Radio Network and several o the r news media. The National Institute of Mental Health this week will post a science update on its web site describing the AJP article. In addition, stories have appeared on WebMD, HealthDay, and at the following news links:

    Atkins Invited to IOM, National Research Council Meeting on Youth & Families
    Marc Atkins , Ph.D., has been invited to participate in a planning meeting of the Board on Children, Youth, and Families of the Institute of Medicine and The National Research Council on the role of primary care providers in improving access to behavioral health services for children and adolescents. Approximately 30 people were invited to attend this one-day meeting to be held in Washington , D.C. , on Nov. 15.

    Stout Receives Illinois Psychological Association Humanitarian Award
    At the recent Illinois Psychological Association Annual Meeting, Chris Stout , Psy..D., received the IPA Humanitarian Award at the awards luncheon.  

    AP Quotes Bell on JAMA Article on Suicidal Behavior Among US Blacks
    Carl Bell , M.D., is quoted in an Associated Press article about a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association on suicidal behavior among U.S. blacks in, particularly African Americans and Caribbean Americans. The story appeared in more than 50 news outlets, including The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Newsday , Forbes.com, and CBSNews.com.     In separate news, Dr. Bell also published a web-based article, “ Exposure To A Traumatic Event Does Not Automatically Put A Person On A Path To Develop PTSD: The Importance of Protective Factors To Promote Resiliency.” The article is based on a maxim drawn from Dr. Bell's work with Dr. David Satcher on his Surgeon General's Youth Violence Report, his work with the Institute of Medicine's Reducing Suicide: A National Imperative, and a recent project related to the Sidney E. Frank Conference on Early Psychological Intervention Following Mass Trauma: Present and Future Directions, sponsored by New York Medical College, in Valhalla, New York in June 2006.
