    Kraus, Colleague Receive Grant for Hi-Res DTI in Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

    , M.D., and Deborah Little, Ph.D., were recently awarded a grant from the Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch Foundation for their research proposal entitled: “High Resolution DTI of White Matter Integrity in Mild Traumatic Brain Injury.” The project will use high resolution Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) to investigate the long term impact of closed head injury on the short-range cortical and subcortical white matter U-fibers in Mild Traumatic Brain Injury.

    HALP Clinic, ADHD Research Faculty, Collaborators Present at NCDEU Meeting
    At the recent meeting of the New Clinical Drug Evaluation Unit Meeting in Boca Raton, faculty from IJR’s HALP Clinic/ADHD Research program, along with collaborators at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York and McGill University in Montreal, presented three posters:

    • The Atomoxetine-Stimulant Side Effects Rating Scale (ASSERS) Elizabeth Charney, Mark Stein, Robyn Palmero, Heather Phillips, Erika Greisenegger, E. Samuel Winer, Chang Su, and Jeffrey Newcorn.
    • ADHD Child and Adult Trials: Differences in Recruitment and Retention D. Clare Tessman, Lauren Maul, Abby Droz, Elizabeth Charney, Fedra Najjar, Bennett Leventhal, Mark Stein.
    • Dopamine Transporter Genotype and Stimulant Side Effects in Children with ADHD Mark Stein, Reut Gruber, Ridha Joober, Natalie Grizenko, and Edwin Cook.

    Gibbons, Hur et al Report Fewer Suicide Attempts by Vets Treated for Depression
    In the current issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry, Robert Gibbons, Ph.D., and Kwan Hur, Ph.D., and their colleague John Mann, M.D., at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, report a decline in suicide attempts by veterans with depression who were treated with antidepressants. The findings were based on 226,866 veterans diagnosed with depression during 2003-2004.

    Harrow Addresses Psychiatry Department at University of Rome La Sapienza
    Martin Harrow
    , Ph.D., recently delivered an invited talk entitled “Factors Involved in Psychosis and Recovery in Schizophrenia,” to the Psychiatry Department at the University of Rome La Sapienza on June 19.

    In addition, at the 160th Annual Meeting of the American Psychiatric Association in San Diego, the Laboratory for the Study of Schizophrenia and Affective Disorders, directed by Dr. Harrow and Linda Grossman, Ph.D., presented three recent papers:

    • L. Grossman, M. Harrow, C. Rosen, H. Dove, & R. Faull: Relationship Between Neurocognitive Performance and Instrumental Work Functioning in Schizophrenia and Other Disorders: A 20-year Prospective Longitudinal Study.
    • M. Harrow, T. Jobe, L. Grossman, D. Beedle & J. Goldberg: A 20-Year Multi-Followup Study of Persecutory Delusions in Schizophrenia
    • Continuing their research on gender differences this research group also presented a third paper: “: Comparison of Longitudinal Course of Illness between Women and Men: A 25-Year Multi-Followup Study of Schizophrenia, Other Psychotic Disorders, and Nonpsychotic Depression.”
