    S Pandey Research on CREB, Alcohol & Anxiety Featured in The Scientist
    The Scientist
    magazine recently published a report on “addictive research” that included leading, current research on CREB and addictive behaviors. The report included an overview on research in the laboratory of Subhash Pandey, Ph.D., in an article entitled “CREB, alcohol, and anxiety.” Scientists from the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and the Director of Neuroscience and Behavioral Research at NIAAA also were interviewed.

    Clinical Neuropsychology Meeting: Pliskin Presents on Business Management, EI
    At the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology June 7-9 in Denver, Neil Pliskin, Ph.D., gave two presentations: Business Management and Professional Issues Forum: Practice and Advocacy Update,” and “Electrical Injury: Clinical and Research Update.”

    Dwivedi Presents on ERK-MAP Kinase Signaling Systems in Depression & Suicide
    Yogesh Dwivedi
    , Ph.D., presented his recent findings on ERK-MAP kinase signaling in depression and suicide in a symposium at a recent meeting of the Society of Biological Psychiatry in San Diego. His presentation was “Adverse Neuronal Sequelae of Major Depression: Implications for Future Treatment Development.” At the meeting, Dr. Dwivedi also organized and chaired a symposium, “Biological and Genetic Risk Factors in Adolescent and Adult Suicide,” and he co-organized and served as moderator in a workshop entitled “Recent Findings from Parallel Human-Rodent Studies in Major Depression: Implications for Novel Mechanisms.”

    Psychiatry Department Welcome Picnic Slated for July 2
    The annual Welcome Picnic will be Monday, July 2, 4:30 to 7 p.m., in PI Park (campus area adjacent to and south of the PI building, 1601 W. Taylor St. The annual, free event is for UIC Department of Psychiatry new trainees, faculty, staff, fellows, students, departmental employees, and families.
