    Best Doctors to be Honored at June 12 Medical Center Recognition Breakfast
    Dean Joe Flaherty, M.D., and UIC Medical Center CEO John DeNardo, MPH, will host a UIC Best Docs Breakfast Thursday, June 12, from 8 to 10 a.m., in the Conference Rooms 1130 and 1135 of the Medical Center. All are welcome to attend. Please RSVP by calling 6-4470, or emailing Connie Cochran Toole at cctoole@uic.edu. An evening reception honoring UIC’s “Best Docs” and “Top Docs” will be held Thursday June 19. Voted Castle Connolly’s National Top Doctors were Geri Fox, M.D., and Bennett Leventhal, M.D. Joe Flaherty, M.D.; Dr. Leventhal; Laura Miller, M.D.; John Perri, M.D.; and Brenda Solomon, M.D., were voted Regional Top Doctors. Faculty elected Best Doctors in America are: Ed Cook, Jr., M.D.; Dr. Fox; Kathleen Kelley, M.D.; Mike Naylor, M.D.; Tom Owley, M.D.; Mani Pavuluri, M.D.; Dr. Solomon; and Carole Warshaw, M.D.

    J Cook Receives National Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association John Beard Award
    Judith Cook, Ph.D., will receive the John Beard Award for outstanding contributions to the field of psychiatric rehabilitation at the annual meeting of the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association to be held in Chicago in June.     Scientific American Mind Cites Work of Grayson, Colleagues
    The work of Dennis Grayson, Ph.D., and colleagues is cited in the current issue of Scientific American Mind in an article entitled “The New Genetics of Mental Illness,” by Edmund Higgins.

    Manevs Note Autism Hypothesis’ Potential for New Diagnostics, Therapy
    In a recent letter in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, Hari Manev, M.D., Ph.D., and Radmila Manev, Ph.D., proposed how their Autism Hypothesis, originally published in 2001, could lead to new directions for the biologically based diagnostics and therapy of autism.     Policies & Procedures
    Over the next few months we will be providing and implementing Department Electronic, Network, Computing Policies and Procedures. All Department Policies and Procedures will be reviewed and endorsed by the Information Technology Steering Committee (ITSC) prior to presenting to the Department.

    Because of our relationship to UIC and College of Medicine there are some Policies we automatically inherit. Two such policies:

    1. Information Security Policy - The University of Illinois
    2. University Guidelines on the Sale, Donation, or Transfer of Computer Hard Drives and Other Magnetic Media

    These policies can be found on our web site using the following link: https://intranet.psych.uic.edu/is/ you will be required to “log-in” to access these policies.

    We will make both of these policies (along with others forth coming) a part of new employee orientation, but to those of us already in the system we are asking that each of you please take the time to read these policies.
