Great Cities Seeds Shernoff, Mehta & Atkins Study of Urban Teachers’ Stress
Elisa Shernoff, Ph.D., Tara Mehta, Ph.D., and Marc Atkins, Ph.D., received a Great Cities Institute Faculty Seed Fund Award for the 2007-2008 academic year for their proposal, “Stress and Coping Among Urban Teachers: An Exploratory Study.” The study will examine specific sources of stress for urban teachers and the strategies they use to cope with these stressors. Results will inform the development of a larger study to identify effective environmental and personal strategies for teachers working in inner city schools.
Autism Speaks Awards Brune 2-Year Postdoctoral Fellowship
Camille Brune , Ph.D., received a two-year post-doctoral fellowship from the foundation Autism Speaks. Edwin Cook, M.D., will mentor Dr. Brune on her project, “Phenotypic Constellation of Autism Associated Variants.” Drs. Brune and Cook coauthored a recent paper in the American Journal of Psychiatry along with Bennett Leventhal, M.D., and Jeff Salt, Ph.D.:

S Pandey to Serve on National, International Alcohol Research Societies
Subhash Pandey, Ph.D., has been appointed to serve as a member of the program committee of the Scientific Meeting of the Research Society on Alcoholism, which will convene in July in Chicago. Dr. Pandey also was recently appointed to serve as a member of the program committee for the Scientific Meeting of the 2008 Joint Research Society on Alcoholism and the International Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism in Washington, DC.
