It’s Brian Mustanski Month: He’s a William T. Grant Scholar and PI on an RO1
Brian Mustanski, Ph.D., last week was named a William T. Grant Scholar by the William T. Grant Foundation. Dr. Mustanski will receive $350,000 over five years to support his research projected, “The Internet as a Setting for Sexual Health Development among Gay Youth.” He is one of four recipients to receive the prestigious, extremely competitive award in 2008. During its 26-year history of supporting early-career researchers in the social and behavioral sciences, the William T. Grant Scholars Program has funded 133 scholars, including Deborah Gorman-Smith, Ph.D., and Roberta Paikoff, Ph.D.
Each year, the foundation selects four to six William T. Grant Scholars from a pool of candidates nominated by a supporting institution. Candidates must have five-year research and mentoring plans that demonstrate creativity, intellectual rigor, and a commitment to continued professional development. A selection committee composed of prominent senior scholars screens all applications, and a small group of finalists is invited to New York for an interview with the committee.
In separate, but related news, Dr. Mustanski received notification of his first funded, NIH RO1 as Principal Investigator: “Gene-environment interaction effects on HIV risk,” with total costs of $2.7 million.

Policies & Procedures
Over the next few months we will be providing and implementing Department Electronic, Network, Computing Policies and Procedures. All Department Policies and Procedures will be reviewed and endorsed by the Information Technology Steering Committee (ITSC) prior to presenting to the Department.
Because of our relationship to UIC and College of Medicine there are some Policies we automatically inherit. Two such policies:
- Information Security Policy - The University of Illinois
- University Guidelines on the Sale, Donation, or Transfer of Computer Hard Drives and Other Magnetic Media
These policies can be found on our web site using the following link: https://intranet.psych.uic.edu/is/ you will be required to “log-in” to access these policies.
We will make both of these policies (along with others forth coming) a part of new employee orientation, but to those of us already in the system we are asking that each of you please take the time to read these policies.
If you have any questions concerning any policy or procedure please contact Lloyd Keith, thank you.
