Internship Match Results Yield ‘Top Notch Slate of Candidates’
The Department’s internship programs had another very strong match this year. New interns in the Adult Program are: Tomasz Andrusyna, from Northwestern University; Brook Marcks, from University of Wisconsin; Alona Ramati, from Rosalind Franklin University; and Justin Weeks, from Temple University. New interns joining the Child Internship Program are: Nicole Bush, from University of Washington; Melanie Dirks, from Yale University; Christina Grange, from Virginia Commonwealth University; and Michael Strambler, from University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Henry Dove credited the continued growth and strength of the internship program to the leadership and guidance of Marc Atkins, Ph.D., and Sue Labott, Ph.D. He added that the program “is attracting a top notch slate of candidates.”
Kaplan Selected as Recipient of J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Award
Kalman Kaplan, Ph.D., recently was selected as a recipient of a J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship. Dr. Kaplan will be affiliated with Tel Aviv University for 10 months during the 2006-7 academic year.
Winer Serves in Panel Discussion at New York Psychoanalytic Institute
On Feb. 19, Jerome Winer, M.D., participated in a panel discussion on The Current State of Psychoanalysis at the Philoctetes Center at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute. Five similar sessions will mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sigmund Freud.
Bell, et all Report on CHAMP Cartoons’ Effectiveness
An article co-authored by Carl Bell, M.D., “Mediating Social Representations Using a Cartoon Narrative in the Context of HIV/AIDS,” is published in the current issue of the Journal of Health Psychology. The article explores the potential role of ‘micro-media’ using cartoon narratives to promote healthy behavior changes based on findings from the Collaborative HIV/AIDS Adolescent Mental Health Program (CHAMP) family-based intervention in South Africa.
Tolan Presents at Institute of Government & Public Affairs; Named APA Fellow
Patrick Tolan, Ph.D., was one of four presenters at an Institute for Government and Public Affairs, where he presented a Family Impact Seminar for the Illinois Legislature February 23. Dr. Tolan presented research and policy implications of family-focused prevention. In separate news, Dr. Tolan was named a fellow of the Division of Psychologists in Public Service in the American Psychological Association. This makes the fifth division of APA that has named Dr. Tolan a fellow.
