Miller, Maki to Present at Jan. 30 Lunch Lecture on Menopause
At a lunch lecture tomorrow, Tues., Jan. 30, Laura Miller, M.D., and Pauline Maki, Ph.D., along with the authors of Is it hot in here? Or is it me? The Complete Guide to Menopause will offer helpful advice on coping with menopause. Other speakers are:
Pat Wingert, Newsweek, Correspondent and Author; Barbara Kantrowitz, Newsweek, Senior Editor and Author; and Lin Schaye, CNM, APN, Menopause Clinician. The free lecture will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in the UI Medical Center, first floor conference rooms 1130 and 1135, 1740 W. Taylor Street. Healthy snacks will be provided.
S Pandey Gives Invited Lecture at Winter Conference on Brain Research
Subhash Pandey, Ph.D., will give an invited talk at 40th winter conference on brain research, in Snowmass, CO. The meeting began Saturday, Jan. 27, and will conclude Friday, Feb. 2. Dr. Pandey will speak in a panel discussion on “Craving from the dark side of the brain,” and will also present data on CREB related genes in alcohol addiction.
JAACAP Publishes Connolly Paper on Child Mental Health Practice Parameter
The current issue of the Journal of the American Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry includes a paper by Sucheta Connolly, M.D., and colleagues. Dr. Connolly is lead author. Citation details for the paper, Practice Parameter on Child and Adolescent Mental Health Care in Community Systems of Care,” is 46(2): 267-283, Feb. 2007.
UIC Medicine Salutes Boothroyd Foundation Gift to Qu’s Neuroscience Research
The current (Winter 2007) issue of UIC Medicine features an article on Tingyu Qu, Ph.D., his research in neuroreplacement therapy to treat Parkinson’s disease, and a private grant from the Charles H. and Bertha L. Boothroyd Foundation, which supports some of Dr. Qu’s research. The foundation was chartered to support causes related to Parkinson’s disease. It has contributed annually to Dr. Qu’s work for the past three years.
College of Nursing Hosts Feb. 6 Lecture on Identity, Ethnicity, Gender & Sexuality
The Center for Reducing Risks in Vulnerable Populations Multiethnic Core in the College of Nursing has invited Psychiatry faculty and staff to a Tuesday, Feb. 6 lecture, “Unpacking identity: race, ethnicity, gender, class, nationality and sexuality,” by Waldo E. Johnson, Jr., Ph.D., Associate Professor, School of Social Service Administration, and Director of the Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture at the University of Chicago. The lecture will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., in the College of Nursing Auditorium, Room 158. Dr. Johnson teaches social welfare policy and human behavior in the social environment in the M.A. program, and research methods in the M.A.and Ph.D. programs at the University of Chicago. His research focuses on male roles and involvement in African American families, nonresident fathers in fragile families and the physical and psychosocial health statuses of African American males. Feb. 14 Clinical Faculty Photo Op at Eye & Ear Infirmary
Clinical faculty who missed previous photo opportunities can take advantage of another one from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wed., Feb. 14, in the Eye and Ear Infirmary, First Floor Conference Room 114 (behind the Information Desk), 1855 W. Taylor Street. The UIH Marketing Department will be holding photo opportunities at various Medical Center facilities in the coming months. Photos will be posted at the Find a Doctor web site, (https://secure1.hospital.uic.edu/doctors/phySc.do) and will also be featured in an upcoming Referring Physician Directory to be mailed out to area physicians in the coming months.
