Hu received his PhD in Medical Sciences in 2004 from the Medical College of Fudan University in China. He joined the lab in 2012 and is examining the role of midkine and perineuronal nets in alcohol use disorder.

Wei-Yang Chen, PhD

Wei-Yang (Jeremy) received his PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology in 2016 from University of Louisville in Kentucky. He joined the lab in 2016 and is studying epigenetic mechanisms in the hippocampus that contribute to alcohol use disorder.

Cassandre Coles
Graduate Research Assistant, Anatomy and Cell Biology

Cassandre received her BS in Biological Sciences at Oakwood University in 2012. She joined the lab in 2017. Her thesis project is determining the role of specific genes expressed in the ventral tegmental area in alcohol consumption.

Kana Hamada

Kana received her BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Johns Hopkins University in 2012 and MHS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2013. She joined the lab in 2017 and is studying the neuroimmune signaling pathways involved in alcohol use. 

Donghong He, MS
Senior Research Specialist and Lab Manager

Donghong (Donna) received her MS in Medical Science in 1995 from Tongji Medical University in China. She joined the lab in 2012 and currently produces viral vectors for the NIAAA-funded INIA consortium. Donna is also interested in elucidating cellular signaling mechanisms regulated by the receptor tyrosine kinase ALK.

Elisa Hilderbrand
Graduate Research Assistant, Graduate Program in Neuroscience

Elisa received her BA in Neuroscience from Knox College in 2010. She joined the lab in 2013 and is studying the effects of estrogen on behavioral responses to drugs of abuse.

Bertha Vandegrift
Graduate Research Assistant, Physiology and Biophysics

Bertha received her BS in Molecular Biochemistry and Biophysics in 2011 from Illinois Institute of Technology. She joined the lab in 2015. Her thesis project involves work in Dr. Lasek and Dr. Mark Brodie’s (Department of Physiology and Biophysics) laboratories. She is studying the mechanism of action of estradiol in altering the physiology of dopamine neurons in the ventral tegmental area.
