Community Outreach Program (CEOP)

CEOP is an adjunct of CARE with the goal of providing educational opportunities and scientific knowledge about alcohol and its affects on brain structure and cognitive functioning (genes and environmental factors) to high school students, faculty, and other community sites. Dr. Marc Atkins, Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology and Director of Institute for Juvenile Research at UIC will direct the CEOP.

Cores

CARE Cores include:

Administrative core: Director, Dr. Subhash Pandey dept. of psychiatry UIC; Scientific Director, Dr. Alessandro Guidotti dept. of psychiatry UIC.

Epigenetics core: PI, Dr. Dennis Grayson, dept. of psychiatry UIC.

This core will be operated in collaboration with Dr. Alvaro Hernandez (Sequencing–in charge) and Dr. Victor Jongeneel (Bioinformatics-in charge) located at Roy J. Carver Biotechnology Center of University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC).

Dr. Dulal Bhaumik dept. of psychiatry UIC is serving as a biostatistician for the CARE.

Training Opportunities

CARE will provide resources and a scientifically enriched environment for training opportunities, coordinated by Dr. Mark Rasenick, dept. of Biophysics and Physiology and Psychiatry UIC.

CARE investigators are currently working with several MD/PhD students from MSTP program of UIC, as well as PhD students from Neuroscience Graduate Program of UIC.
