READING LIST

Suggested Texts for M-3 Psychiatry Clerkship

We recommend that you purchase and read the following textbook (available at the UIC bookstore):

Introductory Textbook of Psychiatry, Fourth Edition
Nancy C. Andreasen, M.D., Ph.D., and Donald W. Black, M.D. 2006, 668 pages ISBN 9781585622726.  Paperback $58.00

We also recommend that you purchase the mini-DSM-4.

We discourage relying of study outlines.  There are some pocket manuals that are clinically useful and practical (Tomb, Manley).  Some question and answer exam prep books may be useful in addition to a textbook (Examples:  High Yield Psychiatry, First Aid, Board Review Series, Lange series).  Sample cases with discussion (e.g., Case Files: Psychiatry by Toy and Klamen) are very helpful.  For child and adolescent psychiatry, a short practical book is Dulcan's Concise guide to CAP.
