Dr. Astrachan Memorial Fitting Tribute to Former Head

The November 15 Memorial Service and Reception in honor of the late Boris Astrachan, MD, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, was a moving and fitting tribute to former Head of the Department. An estimated 325 family members, friends, colleagues, deans, directors, department heads, faculty and staff members attended the memorial ceremony, held in the College of Pharmacy Auditorium. Before the event, George Manning played classical piano selections. Joseph Flaherty, MD; Gerald Moss, MD; Ivan Pavkovic, MD; Kathleen Kim, MD; Jess McDonald, MA, Director of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services; and Ellen Astrach-Fletcher, Ph.D, eulogized Dr. Astrachan. Interspersed between eulogies were several of Dr. Astrachan's favorite opera selections. After the memorial ceremony, guests attended a beautiful reception in the College of Medicine Faculty-Alumni Lounge. Dr. Flaherty, Mrs. Astrachan, and Ellen Astrachan-Fletcher extended heartfelt thanks to all those who attended, and to those who contributed to the events.
