For
the first time ever, retinal cells have been successfully produced from
neural stem cells. The achievement is a collaborative effort between the
Department of Psychiatry and the UIC Department of Ophthalmology and Visual
Sciences, and is reported in the January issue of NeuroReport. Authors
of the article are X. Dong and Jose Pulido, M.D., head the Department
of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Tingyu Qu, M.D., and Kiminobu Sugaya,
Ph.D. The article is entitled "Differentiation of human neural stem
cells into retinal cells," and can be found in Vol. 14, No. 1 of
NeuroReport.
