Pavuluri, IJR Faculty Hosts Bipolar Conference

On Friday, Dec. 6, Mani Pavuluri, M.D., will be keynote speaker at the Jean Ohadi Bipolar Conference, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., which the Department will host in the PI auditorium in collaboration with the Josselyn Center and the Jean Paul Ohadi Foundation. Dr. Pavuluri's presentation will be on "Evidence-based Treatment of Pediatric Bipolar Disorder." Other faculty members will make presentations at the conference. Julie Carbray, A.P.R.N., will discuss "Family Issues and Therapy in Pediatric Bipolar Disorder;" Jodi Heidenreich, L.C.S.W., will speak on "The Rainbow Experience," guidelines for group therapy for children with bipolar disorder. In addition, Ellen Herbener, Ph.D., will participate in a panel discussion of a case study.

The Josselyn Center, based in Northfield, is a community mental health service organization. The Jean Paul Ohadi Foundation was established in 1998 to honor its namesake, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after years of difficulty. Mr. Ohadi died at age 19. The foundation strives to support and create new opportunities to improve diagnosis and treatment of youth with bipolar disorders. The conference registration fee of $125 will be collected by the Josselyn Center. For further registration information, contact June Aimen at aimen@josselyn.org, or call (847) 441-5600, ext. 142. Registrations will also be accepted at the door on the day of the conference.

In separate but related news, Dr. Pavuluri is quoted in an online newsletter posted at www.Connectforkids.org. She was interviewed on the stigma of mental illness among young people, and how to combat that stigma.
