Tam Au

Tam is a junior majoring in Biological Sciences at UIC. She aspires to be an orthodontist with the hope that she will one day bring people not only beautiful smiles, but also the confidence they need. She volunteers with the Women’s Mental Health Research Program in order to expand her knowledge in other fields of science. At the same time, it is an opportunity for her to work with the underserved community of HIV+ women in Chicago.

Hira Chouhdry

Hira is a senior studying neuroscience at UIC. She is a member of the Honors College. Hira hopes to go to medical school after graduating and follow her dream of serving those in need. Volunteering in the Women’s Mental Health Research Program gives Hira a perfect opportunity to further her interest and knowledge on women's mental health and the disproportionate burden of depression and anxiety that impact women. She hopes to contribute to the field of research, including planning and implementing her own capstone project.

Aggie Cisak

Aggie is a senior studying Applied Psychology and Philosophy at UIC. She aspires to obtain her PhD in a more specified field of Psychology involving topics of nutrition and physical health. She hopes to assist those struggling with eating disorders, anxiety and depression through the improvement of both mental and physical health. Aggie joined the Women’s Mental Health Research Program to help broaden her knowledge of different topics in Psychology and contribute to the field of research in any way possible.

Annesti Elmasri

Annesti is a junior majoring in Biology at UIC. She is a member of the Honors College and wants to be a clinical pharmacist. Annesti wanted to get involved with the Women's Mental Health Research Program due to her belief that when you change the life of a woman, you change the life of an entire community. She is active in campus organizations focused on social justice and improving the lives of the members of our community who need it most.

Agatha Fernandez

Agatha is a senior in UIC’s College of Nursing with a minor in Psychology. She is also a member of the Honors College. Her career goal is to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Agatha chose to volunteer in the Women's Mental Health Research Program in order to gain first-hand experience in the field and to prepare her for a career in mental health care.

Mennat Gharib

Mennat is a junior on the pre-med track with a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in Spanish. Mennat is Vice President of the UIC group, Sprouting Leaders, which provides tutoring and mentoring services to junior high students in the Little Village neighborhood. Since an early age, Mennat has been dedicated to pursuing a medical degree and working both locally and globally for patients in need.

Jane Go

Jane is a sophomore on the pre-med track with an interest in biology and mathematics. After her immigration to the US from South Korea in 3rd grade, Jane has been determined to achieve her education and career goals. After graduation from UIC, Jane hopes to attend medical school to become a surgeon.

Erykah Harris

Erykah is a senior nursing student at UIC with goals of becoming an OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner. She hopes to open her own clinic one day in order to provide excellent and needed healthcare and support services to women and young girls. Erykah chose to volunteer in the Women's Mental Health Research Program because she feels that the key to living a healthy life is having a healthy mind and is inspired by the work done in the lab.

Mir Hassan

Mir is a sophomore Biology major with the goal of going to medical school to be a gastroenterologist. His interest in the influence of the gut microbiome on mood and health led to him joining the Women’s Mental Health Research Program. Mir is the youngest of four siblings and grew up in Lombard, IL.

Saarah Na’Allah

Saarah is a senior studying neuroscience at UIC. She is also a member of the Honors College. Saarah became interested in behavioral neuroscience research after taking a course with Dr. Maki and experiencing her passion for the field. The dual emphasis on psychology and biology speaks to Saarah's desire to learn about the factors that shape human behavior. She hopes to go to law school after college and contribute to society through civic engagement and global health.

Mariana Reyes

Mariana is a senior studying Rehabilitation Sciences with minors in Kinesiology and Disability & Human Development at UIC. She is also a member of the Honors College. Mariana hopes to get her doctorate in Occupational Therapy and work in a setting geared towards mental health and underserved populations. Mariana is excited to work in the WMHRP because it provides her with the opportunity to study disparities in mental health care and to do work that provides resources for underrepresented populations.

Zainab Shah

Zainab is a Sophomore majoring in Biological Sciences and Psychology. She is on the Pre-medical track, and aspires to be a pediatric psychiatrist in the future. She is involved in several different service clubs, including Student Leadership Development and Volunteer Services (SLDVS) and the UIC chapter of Relay for Life. Apart from academics, she loves baking, gardening, and playing badminton in her free time.

Shapla Shaheen

Shapla is a senior nursing student. She decided to join the Women's Mental Health Research Program to understand the struggles of underrepresented communities and take part in changing their futures. Shapla is passionate about serving those around her and fighting to better people's lives. This contributes to her desire to focus on community health nursing in Chicago.

Naveen Siddiqui

Naveen is a senior studying Applied Psychology and Gender and Women’s Studies at UIC. She aspires to go to law school and concentrate on public policy around reproductive justice. Along with being a part of the Women’s Mental Health Research Program, Naveen serves on the board of Amnesty International UIC, Feminists United, Psi Chi National Honors Society, LAS Dean’s Advisory Board and is an intern for the Cook County State Attorney’s Office. Naveen has big dreams and passions and one day hopes to contribute her work towards reproductive justice.
