Award/s:   Natania Crane, BS, was awarded a Women & Sex/Gender Junior Investigator Travel Award by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to present her research at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD).  Her study is titled, “Examining Neurocognitive Sex Differences in Young Adult Cannabis Users,” and was co-authored by Randi Schuster and Raul Gonzalez, PhD.

Randi Schuster, MS, was awarded the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Director’s Travel Award to attend the 2012 Annual Meeting of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD).  She will be presenting her research titled, “Neurocognitive Correlates of Risky Sexual Behavior among Young Adult Cannabis Users,” which was co-authored by Natania Crane, BS, and Raul Gonzalez, PhD.

Article:   Lisa Razzano, PhD, CPRP, was recently quoted in the Chicago Windy City Times regarding health and employment for people with HIV/AIDS. The article details a program at Chicago House & Social Service Agency, a local AIDS service provider, collaborating with Dr. Razzano on a new randomized controlled trial study of evidence-based supported employment for individuals with HIV/AIDS funded by the National Institute on Disability & Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR). The project examines multiple factors that promote work, including mental health symptoms, regimen adherence, co-occurring medical illnesses, and health beliefs. The article can be read online at:

Video:   Ed Cook, MD, was featured in a video interview from the National Database for Autism Research.  In addition to the interview, Dr. Cook also reports, “We are very proud of our center’s relationship with NDAR.  We were the first site to upload both MRI and Genomics data.”

Appointment/s: Raul Gonzalez, PhD, has been appointed as the new Chair of Continuing Education Committee for the International Neuropsychological Society (INS). The mission of the INS is to promote the international and interdisciplinary study of brain-behavioral relationships throughout the lifespan and has more than 4,500 members throughout the world. During his five-year term, Dr. Gonzalez will be responsible for the Continuing Education program for the annual and mid-year INS meetings.

Program Announcement: the Greater Illinois Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is sponsoring a free educational series for people who have been diagnosed with MS within the last two years.  The presenters for this program are Neurologist Elizabeth A Harman, MD and Neuropsychologist Neil Pliskin, PhD.
