Current treatments for psychosis and schizophrenia are not always as effective as we would hope.  The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Psychosis Treatment Program has an active research program focused on evaluating new pharmacologic and psychosocial treatments that are believed might be more effective or helpful for some people with schizophrenia.

As of early 2012, we are looking at a medication with a new mechanism of action to determine whether it, combined with the patient’s current antipsychotic medication regimen, can be a safe and effective treatment for either persistent negative symptoms or positive psychotic symptoms.
