August 12, 2011 Sundermann Receives CRWG Dissertation Award The UIC Center for Research on Women and Gender has awarded graduate student Erin Sundermann with a 2011 Alice J. Dan Dissertation Award for her research funded through the Women’s Mental Health Research Program on "Genetic Predictors of Cognition in Women with HIV" (Pauline Maki, PhD, advisor). The annual Alice J. Dan Dissertation Research Award encourages original and significant research about gender and/or women by UIC doctoral students. POSTER DEADLINE: Research Posters Due August 19th for Second Annual Research Extravaganza The abstract submission deadline is Friday, August 19, 2011 for the Department’s Second Annual Research Extravaganza, which is scheduled for Thursday, September 15th in the Chicago Illini Union (also known as Student Center West), 828 S. Maki Moderates HIV and Aging Conference The Chicago Developmental Center for AIDS Research (D-CFAR) hosted their first “Scientific Retreat on HIV and Aging” on August 15, 2011 at Rush University Medical Center. The three Chicago D-CFAR institutions include: University of Illinois at Chicago; Rush University Medical Center; and Cook County Health and Hospitals System. Pauline Maki, PhD is the leader of the HIV and Aging Emphasis Area of the Chicago DCFAR, and served as Moderator for the retreat. The program included presentations on: Current Research on HIV/AIDS and Aging, New Ideas for HIV Aging Research, Aging Research at Chicago D-CFAR Institutions, Access to Samples for Studies, and Round Table Discussions.

October Clinical Research Training Module Dates The UIC’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) newsletter reports new training modules for Clinical Research Personnel responsible for clinical research studies will be held October 14, 21, and 28.
