Cook interviewed by Sun-Times and WBBM Radio on New Autism Drug Trial Edwin Cook, MD, was featured in the Sun-Times online version as well as being interviewed by WBBM Radio about the launch of a new UIC clinical trial to evaluate an experimental drug (STX209 - Arbaclofen) for possible treatment of social communication difficulties in children and young adults with autism. Cook’s UIC study team includes co-investigator Fedra Najjar, MD, and study coordinators Sarah Youngkin and Clare Tessman. Camp STAR Featured on ABC Network News Camp STAR (Summer Treatment for ADHD and Related Issues) in Highland Park was featured on ABC Network News (July 1, 2011). Mark Stein, PhD, ABPP serves as Camp Director overseeing counselors drawn from students or graduate students going into pediatrics, psychology or social work. The summer camp, operated by the Institute for Juvenile Research along with the Jewish Council for Youth Services, serves 6- to 12-year-olds with ADHD, anxiety, and socially disruptive disorders. Stein and colleagues from Camp Star and The University of Chicago also presented a poster at the International Society for Research in Child Psychopathology (ISRCAP) Meeting held June 15-18, 2011 in Chicago. The poster entitled, “Sleep and Sleepiness in Children Attending a Summer Treatment Program,” is based on data collected from Camp STAR. National Prevention Council Founded at Recommendation of NAS Report Based on the work of Carl Bell, MD and colleagues on the 2009 National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine's Preventing Mental, Emotional, and Behavioral Disorders Among Young People: Progress and Possibilities, the White House has established the first-ever National Prevention Council Chaired by Surgeon General Regina M. Benjamin and consisting of the entire White House cabinet. The recommendation to establish such a Council can be found in the Preventing Mental, Emotional, and Behavioral Disorders among Young People: Progress and Possibilities report.
