July 1, 2011 Award: Rubin and Kapella Receive Chancellor Discovery Fund Leah Rubin, PhD and Mary Kapella (Biobehavioral Health Sciences) are recent awardees of the UIC Chancellor's Discovery Fund for Multidisciplinary Pilot Research for their project entitled, “A Pilot Study of Mechanisms Underlying the Relationship between Hot Flashes and Memory Dysfunction.” The faculty team also included co-investigators Stacie Geller, PhD (Obstetrics and Gynecology) and Pauline Maki, PhD. The Chancellor’s Discovery Fund provides financial support to “new multidisciplinary collaborations led by emerging researchers at UIC to foster academic inquiry that draws upon the expertise of varied disciplines, to nurture the research career trajectories of promising early-stage investigators, and to help awardees leverage extramural funding.” For more information see: http://tigger.uic.edu/depts/ovcr/research/funding/discovery/
Award: Fox Receives ADMSEP Innovations Award Geri Fox, MD received the ADMSEP Innovations Award at the Association of Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry Annual Meeting, held June 17, 2011 in Savannah, GA. ADMSEP awards a member “who has implemented an outstanding project or program in medical student education in psychiatry. The purpose of the award is to recognize an achievement which is innovative, unique, creative, inspiring and has a documented record of success." For more information see: http://www.admsep.org/
Presentation: Fox Presents at ADMSEP Annual Meeting Geri Fox, MD presented with J. Michael Bostwick, MD (Mayo Clinic) at the June 2011 ADMSEP Meeting with a presentation entitled, "Saying Goodbye: Using Stimulus Video to Teach Medical Students about End-of-Life Issues." Fox also leads the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Medical Education (CAPME) Task Force at ADMSEP and serves as the AACAP-ADMSEP Liaison.
