Clozapine for Persistent Psychosis

Clozapine (Clozaril) is a special antipsychotic medication. It often is effective even when other antipsychotics have not worked very well. It also can lower the chances of suicide in persons who are at very high risk of suicide. Patients and families may wonder “if clozapine is so good, why is it not prescribed more often?” It turns out that clozapine is more complicated than the other antipsychotics. It requires more monitoring. Because of the special nature of clozapine, we have a dedicated clinical service specializing in the evaluation and use of clozapine. The Clozapine Treatment Team has expertise in this medication and includes Dr. Weiden, Dr. Solari, Doris Griffin APN, Shiyun Kim PharmD, and Ms. Adriana Magana.
