Toya Clay, M.D. is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and is the Program Director of Illinois DocAssist, a child psychiatry consultation program which supports the work of primary care providers. Illinois DocAssist is a collaborative effort between the Department of Psychiatry, Illinois Healthcare and Family Services (HFS), Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Mental Health (DHS-DMH), and the Illinois Children’s Mental Health Partnership (ICMHP). Dr. Clay defines herself as a clinician-advocate committed to providing the highest quality direct care and consultative services and improving systems of care through collaborative efforts, mental health policy and program development. Dr. Clay served as the 2006 American Psychiatric Association Jeanne Spurlock mental health legislative fellow and worked for U.S. Congresswoman, Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.). Dr. Clay is a board certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist and holds a Bachelor’s degree from Yale and received her Medical Degree from Harvard Medical School. She completed a residency in general psychiatry at Columbia University in New York City and completed a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
