The Pediatric Mood Disorders Clinic (PMDC) specializes in the evidence-based treatment of children and adolescents with mood disorders on the depressive disorder spectrum, including bipolar disorder, unipolar depression and psychosis as it relates to mood disorders. The treatment team consists of Mani Pavaluri, MD, FRANZCP, PMDC Director; Julie A. Carbray PhD, APN, PMHCNS-BC; Tahseen Mohammed, MD; Jodi Heidenreich, LCSW; and numerous multi-disciplinary trainees. Treatment consists of diagnostic evaluations; psychopharmacology; child and family focused treatment (cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, and family psychoeducation); school intervention; and therapeutic groups. The Rainbow Group, for children ages 8-12 with bipolar disorder, includes training in monitoring moods, managing mood instability, coping with school stressors, and improving self-esteem. The Hidden Treasures Group, also for children 8-12, with primary depressive disorders focuses on how to change negative thoughts, how to monitor moods, how to communicate with family, how to be more social and manage school-life, and how to nurture self-esteem. Referrals to this clinic can be made by calling the clinic directly at 312-996-7723.
