Illinois DocAssist Program

Answering Your Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Questions

The Illinois DocAssist Program (DocAssist) is a free, problem-based consultation service to primary care clinicians to assist in the screening, diagnosing, and treatment of mental health and behavioral health problems in children up to age 21. Primary care clinicians may request a telephone consultation with one of the DocAssist child psychiatrists, receive referrals for their patients and schedule CME workshops. DocAssist can help primary care clinicians manage screening, diagnosis and management issues while specialty services are being sought or an appointment at the Colbeth Clinic is being scheduled. When feasible, the primary care clinician can refer their patient to be seen in person by a child psychiatry trainee supervised by the DocAssist consultants at the UIC Colbeth Clinic.

Primary care clinicians and other clinicians may call the DocAssist warm consultation line at 1-866-986-ASST (2778) between 9am-5pm Monday through Friday for free phone consultations and assistance with referrals. Consultation requests may also be made through the DocAssist website at http://www.psych.uic.edu/DOCASSIST/consultation.html.

Parents, if you have a child struggling with a mental health please call 312-996-2200 to make an appointment in our outpatient clinic.

Dr. Toya D. Clay is the DocAssist Project Director and lead child psychiatry consultant. Dr. Clay and the other supporting child psychiatry consultants provide consultations and workshops completely free of charge through funding from the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, the Illinois Division of Mental Health and the Illinois Children’s Mental Health Partnership.
