Marrea Winnega, PhD

Director, The Autism Program
Marrea Winnega, PhD, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with specialties in autism spectrum disorders and developmental psychology. She received her Master's in Psychology and Doctorate in Clinical and Developmental Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Winnega is the Director of the UIC Department of Psychiatry Autism Service for the Institute for Juvenile Research. She conducts diagnostic assessments and consults with schools and agencies serving individuals with autism spectrum disorders. She is also the site director for The Autism Program at Chicago. As part of this project, Dr. Winnega and grant partners developed several demonstration classrooms for educating children with autism in Chicago and south suburbs. The demonstration classrooms utilize Structured Teaching (TEACCH), discrete trial training and Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS).
Dr. Winnega is a board member of the Autism Society of Illinois and chair of the Professional Advisory Committee and Program Committee. She has also conducted numerous workshops on autism spectrum disorders.
Dr. Winnega is a Structured Teaching trainer.
