Lech Kiedrowski, PhD
Dr. Kiedrowski’s long-term objective is to conduct studies aimed at further understanding the mechanisms of neuronal dysfunction or death during neuropsychiatric diseases and stroke, and to identify novel targets for pharmacological intervention to treat these diseases. Currently, Dr. Kiedrowski follows up on the findings described in his recent papers indicating that a drop in intracellular pH triggers intracellular Zn2+ release that likely plays a role in the mechanism of ischemic neuronal death. In this research, the intracellular sources of Zn2+ involved in the acid-induced Zn2+ release are being investigated. Dr. Kiedrowski’s research has been funded by grants from NIH and AHA.
