Human

The human research component of the BBC is performed by an interdisciplinary team, led by Dr. Stephen W. Porges, PhD.  Dr. Porges is a former president of the Society for Psychophysiological Research and the Federation of Behavioral, Psychological and Cognitive Sciences.  The research team includes members from Psychology, Behavioral Neuroscience, and Bioengineering.  Human research occurs at the Institute for Juvenile Research or the ClinicalResearchCenter.

The lab is currently in the data collection phase of a multiyear, longitudinal study of infant development that is funded through the National Institute of Child Health and Development (NIH).  Research interests in the lab span a wide range of topics, but share a focus on neural regulation of autonomic systems and the role they play in social interactions.  Bioengineers in the lab analyze behavioral and physiological data and also develop new measurement systems for use in psychophysiological research.
