Dr. Paikoff's research is focussed on normative developmental processes during the transition to adolescence. She currently directs a basic study of family process and its relation to HIV risk exposure among urban African American youth, as well as a prevention program aimed to assist families in negotiating the transition to adolescence. She is currently supported by an NIMH career development award, which focusses on continuing her current work, as well as expanding her research in the directions of understanding mental health factors and development prior to adolescence.
