Dr. Naylor is an expert in child and adolescent mood disorders, psychopharmacology, and pediatric sleep disorders. He is the Division Director of Child Psychiatry and the Director of the Behavioral Health and Welfare Program, a program formed by contract between the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and UIC to address the mental health needs of the most severely disturbed state wards. He directs the UIC Psychotropic Medication Consultation Program and consults with the DCFS Consent Line regarding psychotropic medication consents for youth in state custody. He has published more than 100 peer reviewed manuscripts, abstracts and book chapters and has presented his work at national meetings.
